Telephone
|
The recent rapid increase of cellular phones
has changed the pattern of telephone use in Korea.
Lately, cell-phone use has drastically cut the need
for public phones. In addition, there are a number
of subscribers to the mobile data retrieval and
messaging service being offered by mobile phone
companies.
The area code system that once included 144 different
codes has been trimmed to 16, making long distance
calling a lot easier. Currently, an ordinary telephone
number is seven to eight-digits. The public phone
system has also been significantly upgraded to accept
IC cards, making coins and ordinary telephone cards
obsolete.
